Is there room for a product that’s part digital picture frame, part all-in-one PC, but mostly just a monitor? Acer seems to think so, and it’s doing its best to carve out a niche for itself with its new 24-inch D241H model, which promises to do nothing short of “revolutionize the way you use a monitor.” To accomplish that feat, the monitor packs built-in WiFi, along some basic internet / media player capabilities that will let you check your email, keep watch on the news, weather and other things via some widgets, or simply enjoy some music, photos or videos. You’ll also get a built-in memory card reader, a pair of USB ports, a wired LAN port, and an apparently included wireless keyboard (no touchscreen here, folks). ... Read More...

Acer Aspire One 532G with ION 2 priced at an aggressive 379 euros
March 3rd, 2010
Eric Now that’s how to get our attention. While the English-speaking portion of the Acer press conference left much to be desired, the second half, decidedly more German in vernacular, had a couple great tidbits. Most notable is a price of Acer’s AspireOne 532G , the ION 2-equipped netbook initially espied at Mobile World Congress... Read More...

ViewSonic’s new VNB131 ViewBook Pro puts an attractive spin on the 13.3-inch ULV laptop
February 23rd, 2010
Eric Viewsonic isn’t quite our go-to for excellent PC design just yet, but its new VNB131 ViewBook Pro is a surprisingly decently attractive alternative to the usual ULV fare from the likes of Acer and ASUS. Maybe it’s just that touch of “1999″ in the aluminum curves and accents that we’re finding ourselves suddenly drawn to. Outside of the looks, the VNB131 is mostly pretty stock ULV: there’s an Intel ULV SU7300 Core 2 Duo processor, 320GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, a DVD burner, HDMI, VGA, 802.11n and a 7-in-1 card reader... T-Mobile Pulse Mini does cheap, tiny, prepaid Android for Europe
February 23rd, 2010
Eric In the US, the concept of a prepaid Android phone is about as foreign as the concept of an effective high-speed mass transit system, but abroad, T-Mobile is following up its Pulse with a cuter, smaller sibling in the Pulse Mini. Like the original the Pulse is sourced from China’s Huawei and offers Euro HSDPA, but the similarities end there: the new model will run Android 2.1 out of the gate, step down from an HVGA to a QVGA display, and run on a more modern Qualcomm MSM7225 core. ... Origami-like Play MP3 Player concept makes tunes, not cranes
February 22nd, 2010
Eric We’re going to go ahead and admit up front that this is not the most practical concept we’ve seen come out of Yanko Design before, but it is quite intriguing — even if its name is not. Called the Play MP3 Player it’s inspired by origami and to control it you fold it to create the shape of what you want to do. A triangle to play, a square to stop, and overlapping triangles to go forward or backward (another pic after the break explains it)... Read More...
